How to Perform Carpet Cleaning on Old Dried in Paint
If you have been unfortunate enough to spill paint on your carpet, the best time to get rid of it is when it is still wet. Fortunately, there are still some reliable methods to remove dried paint and avoid the expense of replacing your whole carpet. Products such as Goo Gone, WD-40, acetone nail polish remover and even paint thinner can all remove dried in paint. However, before you use any of these, it’s always best to try a small amount on an inconspicuous part of the carpet. If it does not fade the coloring or damage the carpet, then you know it’s safe to use to remove the paint.
To remove dried paint, use WD-40, gather clean, white rags, a hard bristled brush, and a razor blade. Before spraying on the WD-40, using either the brush or blade, remove as much of the paint as you can. Then, using the WD-40 on the paint stain in order to soften it. Work this in using a clean rag. Once you’ve worked this into the carpet, allow it to sit for approximately 20 minutes.
After the 20 minutes have passed, scrub the area with the WD-40 still on, this should help to soften and lift the paint off. Next, scrape the leftover paint off using the razor blade. Once the paint has all been removed, use a solution of dishwashing liquid and water, this will help clean the area up and remove the smell of the WD-40. Follow this up with a rinse of clear water.
You can use this method to remove paint with Goo Gone also. To protect yourself against injury, remember to wear gloves to keep your hands safe from any chemicals you use, in addition to the razor blade. Some homeowners have more success by scraping off paint using a dull knife. This could be safer for your hands. But, it does take much longer to scrap off the paint stain.
